Ampersand, Wardour Street, London, W1
The Ampersand building is a refurbished mixed use office block on the corner of Wardour Street and Hollen Street in central London. Crofton Engineering were appointed as part of the team to carry out a major Cut and Carve refurbishment creating four floors of Category A office space and two floors of high specification residential space.
Crofton’s scope of works included the detailing, fabrication and installation of approx 700 tonnes of structural steelwork. Working in a challenging location and within the shell of the existing building we successfully erected around 350 tonnes of heavy steelwork. A further 350 tonnes of steelwork were supplied to form the new 4th, 5th and roof structures.
McLaren Senior Project Manager Mr James Coulsey said of Crofton’s work “the team has always found solutions to issues that the building has put forward. An impressive can do attitude in the face of many challenges has been a theme throughout. The team should be exceptionally proud of the steelwork installed and the differing methods used to thread oil rig size steelwork through an existing building on Oxford Street with constantly live retail units on the ground floor. The core infill steelwork in the basement and stability frame steel were highlights”.
